A Holistic Approach to Language

چکیده
The following progress report, produced originally in 1982, views language acquisition as primarily the attempt to create processes that connect together in a fruitful way linguistic input and other activity. The representations made of linguistic input are those that are optimally eeective in mediating such interconnections. An eeective Language Acquisition Device should contain mechanisms speciic to the task of creating the desired interconnection processes in the linguistic environment in which the language learner nds himself or herself. Analysis of this requirement gives clear indications as to what these mechanisms may be.
